Written in an easy language about a mysterious vine on a house the story has a great potential to entertain almost everyone who reads it. This short story written by Ambrose Bierce is about the haunted Harding mansion where exists a creepy wine which when unearthed resembles a human figure similar to one of the family members.
The language of the story is easy and the writer continues to maintain mystery till the end. The writer strictly sticks to the main plot which is appreciated. The story is written in a simple language and easy vocabulary is used.
However, it would have been a great idea if readers could get to know about the current whereabouts of the Harding family as at a point of time we can see the story getting predictable. There are many hidden messages in the story too like how human emotions and society work which seem subliminal as these can be understood by the readers but subconsciously. It is also one of the shortest stories one would have ever read.
In a nutshell, it is not a scary story but would be a great time killer.
I would like to rate it 4.5/5 stars.
